OTI, Erica's Pick

Skirt: BCBG Max Azria via Buffalo Exchange...Button-down: J Crew...Belt: Target...Shoes: Kenneth Cole Reaction via Piperlime

It's staaaarting!

Erica picked today's inspiration, and I like it a lot. I would have like my interpretation better if I'd done a weekend version. Live and learn. Grace and Kayla have done a version, as well, and I can't wait to check back at lunch to see who else has linked up their own blog!

Anyway, I've kind of gone blog MIA for several days- my sister's ex-boyfriend, who has kind of been sucked permanently into the family friends circle, was down in Houston for an interview (which he thinks went very well) and we changed his return flight to later today. Moral of the story is I spent the weekend taking him to do all the fun weekend-y things we normally do in hopes of convincing him that Houston would be awesome enough to make the move if he gets the offer. He's been in Rochester NY since college and has found a really awesome community there, so I did my best to not oversell H-Town, just show him a peek into how genuinely awesome our little area actually is. I think it was working.

A lightweight taste of fall

Thursday, September 29, 2011

It's still highs of 95 around here. Barf. But I am dying to wear some of my recently thrifted/ resale goodies. So I just went ahead and did it today.

1- Thrifted lightweight wool ridiculously red pencil skirt. I am not a fan of red, but the shape is perfection, the length is so classic and I know pencil skirts are my "thing," so why not get one in color. For $3.
2- BCBGMaxAzria suede pumps. Thick stylized heels, silly rubber grip soles. I. am. in. love. I debated them overnight, because I'm in Texas, and who really needs the warmth of suede in Texas? Seemingly I do.

And I keep giving this little silk floral blouse chances- I really loathe the fit, a little too tight, too short, poofy sleeves, but that print is SO worth it. So there you have it.

Cardigan: Target...Necklace: Banana Republic

Pardon the dog hair.

Fair warning: my Guy is off to an Electronic Music festival this weekend, so I am without dude and without camera. Double WAH! If I creeper-stalk your blog, I'm sorry!

HUGE EDIT: I clearly had this inspiration in my head and credit it due- Thanks, Kendi.

Stolen Ideas

And now for something completely different: Replicating another fashionable woman's outfit.

Let me preface this whole outfit by saying two things: 1- I have never owned a chambray shirt. I wasn't able to find one that didn't flap like bat wings at my armpits. 2- I have never owned a bright floral skirt. It draws attention and is the only red article of clothing I own. Mid-20's and I don't own red.
Anyway, I was immediately drawn to the summery look of these ladies and knew I had to go for it when I found the chambray shirt at Target last week. It fit, it was $17 and it was mine. I am not sure this look will become a staple for me, but it really is good to try new things.

Reverse french braided bun
I needed to house sit for the last two nights and so this bun saved my butt today. I showered yesterday, put my hair up and slept on it and am still not in bad shape for today. Kate-1, hair-0.

I am so grateful this weekend feels like it's lasted for at least 5 days, and I still have all of today to enjoy! My Guy may end up choosing to spend his day at school finishing a movement of his string quartet, so that sounds to me like an open invitation to spend my day wandering around Marshalls or something. See everyone tomorrow.
