My Dye-ing Day

Thursday, March 29, 2012

That was literally the worst pun I'm likely to make all year. But, heeeeey, look who has a 'do that's all one color. And who didn't get caught taking photos. And who doesn't have too many bruises on her legs. Win, win, win.

So, the review of my eSalon.com custom hair dye:
I'm not sure if it's my hair or something in the formulation, but the color came out warm toned, even though I ordered a cool light brown. I made notes in my account about the brassy color, so I'll give it one more shot in 12 weeks. But, I will say, the formula was easy to use, they provided a color for my roots/ new growth and a separate one for my ends, it smelled no better or worse than any other dye I've used and my hair feels healthy after use. Which is always a good thing. (BTW, this isn't a sponsored post- just thought you all would enjoy learning about a new company out there)

I'm a little disappointed about my hair turning out the "wrong color" but at least it's still light, has no roots, and looks good, even if it wasn't my intention.

Also, can you believe how short this dress is?! Whoops.

How nice is that packaging??

I wrote and deleted 5 topics so far. I throw in the towel today- I'm tired and I was typing drivel.

I hope you like this belted blazer- it feels just a liiiittle lumpy and makes me anxious. I really need to quit trying blazers with dresses, I'm too bony for it to look the way I see it in my head.

Whining aside, it's Friday and I may or may not spend the evening reading. Which isn't bad at at all. Especially since I have a tub of trail mix left over from last weekend.

Bang!

Wednesday, December 21, 2011

Well, not really a blow-out, because I don't recall anything catastrophic happening, but we've got another crazy overnight flat tire. My Guy and I were taking our dandy time driving around last night, I saw the low tire pressure sensor pop on and thought "No biggie, I'll pop into Costco and have them fill it up tomorrow after work." I drove out of the carport this morning and just knew I already had a flat. So I looped around the block at a glacial speed and convinced my Guy to change into real-people clothes and come outside to help me. Working at home in your PJ's is rough stuff.

That's threeeeeee in a year, people.

Oh, yeah, you're so cute... Glad you took your time getting ready- because you're reeeeeeeeally late now that you have a flat tire.

Is 80 F really cold?

Tuesday, October 4, 2011

General consensus would be a resounding "no," but I'm freezing today. My blood is thiiiiin and my hands are cold. I figured today would feel a lot like the weekend- chilly, pleasant mornings and a hot, sticky afternoon. Nope. As it turns out, I should have dressed in longer sleeves and boots (I talked myself out of it when getting dressed).

Well, my Guy is back in town after being away at EMM in Kansas City, KS (That Electronic Music Midwest, for all you non-nerds out there) since THURSDAY. I always have mixed feelings about him being gone for so long.

On one hand, I'm more the type of person who gets excited about alone time and my Guy is recharged by being social. So, when he goes out of town, it's most likely a social/conference type of thing where he can chat it up and be tipsy and loud. And I can stay home, spend hours in pj's while petting the dog on the head and clean the house sloth-style. I enjoy that. I also enjoy "getting out of the house" on my own terms, like meandering my way through neighborhoods and house-looking and winding up at a thrift store and then spend hours picking my way through the racks.
On the other hand, my best buddy is gone for days on end and we thrive on the small day-to-day stories and small pleasures. Like the ice cream cone I made dinner on Friday- no one was there to tease me mercilessly. Where's the fun of contraband eating? Oh, and I forget to eat anything myself if I don't have someone else to feed. So, that's a problem, too.

But, he's back. And kissed me on the cheek at 1 am when he arrived. And I didn't wake up or notice. Good thing I didn't get robbed.

That was easy

Friday, September 23, 2011

I really am such. a. bum. This is dry shampoo'ed and teased hair. A shirtdress. A long sweater. Earrings I've been wearing for days. I took just minutes throwing this outfit on. And a grand total of 3 minutes on hair and eyemakeup. I was simply not in the mood to pay attention. My dog had an attention needy, cuddly morning, and I much preferred snuggling to a blow out.

The result is the reason I adore shirt dresses. I spent literally seconds deciding what to wear and I look okay. I will never profess looking pristine, but I look presentable. Acceptable. Passable.

What are your lazy day go-to's?

Skirt or Dress- Monochrome part 2

Friday, August 26, 2011

My wardrobe is a sea of neutrals and, while giving myself a challenge of working with the crop pants was a good self-improvement step, the monochrome was a little dull. I think if I used silky ivories or added more depth with a darker camel, it would have been more interesting.
To make up for that, I yanked out this Dress for today's challenge and rather than pairing it with a neutral sweater, my go-to color combo, I went Monochrome again. In blues. I'm so snazzy.
I also wore a pair of pumps that are way more comfortable than they ought to be- for Pete's sake they're croc embossed leather. Foxy shoes should be pain and torture, but these are a relatively modest 3" heel, have great flex and fit my foot very well.
Aaaand, fun fact: this Target dress was lovingly armpit altered by a very sweet girlfriend. There is nothing worse than a shirtdress that droops to look like an oversized 80's trenchcoat.

Last evening I got roped into a surprise Gala Auction meeting, which was so nebulous and distracted I can hardly stand it. There is discussion of purchasing some sort of auction software and I can see ZERO reason that it's even up for debate- the tracking system that we've been using is mediocre and time consuming at best, the follow up and billing at the end of the event evening itself would be drastically simplified, eliminating the man-power and time suck for the staff post-event. Etc. etc. etc. Anyway, there may be a few good new contacts for items that came from the meeting, but I sat through 2 hours of torture for a lot of nothing. No concrete decisions or plans of action. Wah.
I went home to a sushi evening, though. That helped.
