Week of Lip Gunk, Day Five

Friday, April 6, 2012

Boss Lady and Fam went to the coast for Easter. And I wore jeans to work to celebrate (That's clearly a logical conclusion). Here's some outfit improvement notes for my own future reference:
1. Two skinny belts are cute and fun, but maybe I should consider tightening them the same amount.
2. Dusty heathered sweaters are best worn with a contrasting bottom. I was too afraid to bust out my white crop jeans, but they would have been winners.
3. Pick a tank top that has a low enough neckline to sit below the loose neckline of said amazing heathered sweater- nude boring camisole peeking out is not a good look. And it drastically reduces the number of photos that are any good at all for blog use.

Aaaand to wrap up the Week of Lip Gunk, Day Five: Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Coral Reef. It's a good one- pretty highly pigmented peachy coral color without shimmery crap in it, a strange mixture of being very "there" color and being nicely blendable. I applied too heavily and ended up with gooey peach lips, but after a quick blot and a light second application, this was a lovely fresh color to brighten up my face. It's going to be an eeeeeasy summer favorite. I'm really glad my first excessive application didn't scare me away from this goodie.

Week of Lip Gunk, Day Four

Thursday, April 5, 2012

While I'm clearly drawn to more natural looking or just enhanced lipcolors, a pop of color is a good thing every once in a while. Enter the bold pink lip.

Week of Lip Gunk, Day Four: I'm rockin' a cheerful pink with a name that's waaaay off in terms of it's description: L'Oreal Colour Rich "Vagabond Mauve"- there is nothing mauve about this color. It's the lipstick Barbie would wear if she wanted a berry-toned pink for evening. But, it is a nice blue-based color and it works with my skintone, so as far as loud pinks go, it's a good one.

I am really in love with this skirt- it's a lovely light grey tweed, lined, belt loops, pockets, nice hem length. I also seemingly love wearing it with this shirt- last time I went with the weird green snakeskin belt to accessorize. It's barely a change in the outfit, but if there's a nearly 3 month span, one can recycle a look, right?

Week of Lip Gunk, Day Three

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

Hey, Kate, if you're going to try a new setting on your camera for the first time in the rain, be sure to check the shutter speed... 1/6 sec means you'll be a turquoise smear in most of them. Good try, though.

Week of Lip Gunk, Day THREE: I'm wearing Ulta's Sheer Pout lipstick (which is an old formula) and I like it more for fall and winter, but it's a good one. Nice and neutral, a little deeper hue, relatively sheer and the perfect "your lipcolor but better" tone. The only reason I don't wear it often is that I have a hang-up about looking like I'm wearing lipstick, which is completely stupid since looking like you're wearing lipstick means looking like you put in a little effort. And with frizzy rainy day hair, I need all the help I can get.

Week of Lip Gunk, Day Two

Tuesday, April 3, 2012

What is my current definition of bliss? 10 minutes of computer time at the end of the day while my guy dozes off, snoring lightly and adorably, a fluffy pile of cat on his chest and a dog curled up at my feet, dreaming, yelping and twitching. I adore these three and was grateful for the little late night reminder of joy in the little things.

Sorry about these lousy photos- it was rainy all day and I tried THREE different times to get a decent shot or two. Which is really too bad because I like the outfit.

Aaaaand Week of Lip Gunk, Day Two: Today I am wearing Sephora's "Lip Attitude Glamour" (which is their sheer lipstick) in tender rose. I've clearly had it for enough time to use most of it and melt the crap out of it. I like this formula a lot- hydrating, nice color with a little shimmery dimension, but without being an opaque lipstick.

Week of Lip Gunk, Day One

Monday, April 2, 2012

Full disclosure, I edited the crap outta my undereye bags, I spent a very very tearful evening finishing season 3 of Lost last night (and if you've seen it, you know I wasn't overreacting). I'm not at all ashamed of being a cry-er in the worst way, heck- I'll cry in front of the entirety of Rice University's student population while standing on a podium with a spotlight shining on me, but I'm definitely embarrassed by how very puffy my eyeballs get for days afterward.

So, welcome to Day One of my Week of Lip Gunk. Today I chose Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in 025 Peach Parfait. Here's why I don't wear it: I like the pinkish peach tone, but the shimmer in the formula is super deceptive. I was expecting a little hint of light reflection and ended up with frosty gold and silver-based shimmer. I purchased a colored lip butter. I ended up with something a little too 90's for my taste. But, I'm stuck with it for the day, so I'll smile like I enjoy it.

There's another goodie going on here. Kayley from Sidewalk Ready posted this amazing hair tutorial a few days ago, so I had to give it a shot. I did it over last weekend for Jersey Girl's birthday (I was working with Day 2 and a 5 hour car ride hair...) and thought I should try it again during the week. If you have any hair at all to work with, I suggest you give it a shot. It feels instantly glamorous with preeeetty minimal effort.
