Layered Monochrome

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Since I jumped on the bandwagon waaaay late for the 21 Day Challenge, I'm making up for lost time with a 2-fer. I put together a Monochromatic ensemble with Layered necklaces to accessorize. I will admit to being my mommy's daughter and have followed in her footsteps with a love of neutrals and whites and khakis... But I decided to build this outfit with pants rather than a skirt and I ran into some troubles. I love my skirt collection, I'm comfortable building looks with my tone on tone on tone pencil skirts, but I aaaalways mix print and color with these pants. Finding a way to pull off a monochrome look with a silhouette I'm even mildly happy about was a challenge. What do you all think?

Shirt: Banana Outlet...Pants: Zara (altered with higher waist)...Cardigan: Gap...Belt: thrifted...Shoes: Naturalizer

Bag: Zara

Pearls: J Crew...Glass beaded: J Crew...Chain and small pearl: Target

I'm currently taking a break from work- my boss has been renovating this enormous house for way over a year and I've somehow, as her assistant, landed the role of contractor. The front door is wildly swollen and when I spoke to her about planing it down by about 1/8" to give proper clearance, she said no. Because the swelling might go down in winter. Houston heat lasts for 10 months of the year, but we're going to hold out for the few months that it's moderately cool because if we shave it down now, the gap might get too big. Has anyone else ever measured 1/8"?! It's miniscule! Needless to say, I took many photos of the door and emailed it to her since she's out of town and wants all kinds of tradesmen out of her house by the time she returns. This excess of workmen won't decrease if she comes home and discovers it really is inconvenient to try to open and close a swollen door.

Do we notice a problem here?

I also have chicken thawing for dinner... and zero inspiration. My Guy says he'll be home for dinner early and plans to go back to school to work after, so I reeeeeaaally need to get the gears turning on that little conundrum. Eep!
Happy Tuesday, all!

  2. I haven't ever really though about forming my outfits monochromatically. Sure, I've seen the monochrome thing done before but I never realized how much I like it. The neutrals in your outfit are awesome. And I love how you layered those necklaces.
